The building process began during the reign of Sultan Mohammad Khodabandeh and was completed under his son, Sultan Abu Sa'eed. The mosque is renowned for its architectural significance, featuring a four-porch design and intricate moldings that are considered some of the most stunning examples of Iranian craftsmanship.
The mosque's design includes traditional elements of Islamic architecture, such as a large central courtyard surrounded by iwans (rectangular halls or spaces), and a prominent dome.
