Hajj Offers Spiritual, Political, and Social Benefits for All Muslims: Ex-MP

Hajj has a spirit and a political dimension and is a symbol of the unity of Islamic communities,” Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Taghi Rahbar told IQNA.

“In other words, the benefits of Hajj extend to all people — not only those who attend but also those who do not — as stated in the Quran: ‘And proclaim the Hajj to all the people’,” he added, quoting verse 27 of Surah Hajj.

Rahbar noted that pilgrims participating in Hajj perform its rituals and move toward a shared belief in divine unity and spiritual elevation. “Even those who do not attend Hajj benefit in economic and material ways from the movement of pilgrims,” he said. “So, the blessings of this spiritual journey reach everyone.”

He highlighted the broader significance of the pilgrimage, saying, “The political dimension of Hajj includes promoting Muslim unity, Islamic awakening, returning to Islam, the Quran and the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and strengthening Islamic identity.”

Rahbar also pointed to the opportunity Hajj provides for Muslims to express solidarity in the face of global injustice and oppression. “Muslims can use Hajj to show their unity and solidarity against tyranny and global arrogance,” he stated.

He said the scope of Hajj also touches on issues of governance and leadership in the Muslim world, enhancing ties among Islamic scholars and elites.

He stressed that this year’s Hajj should also serve as a platform to support oppressed populations, particularly Palestinians in Gaza. “Hajj must carry the spirit of defending the oppressed people of Gaza and exposing the wickedness of the Zionists,” Rahbar said.

“This year, the various opportunities and the ceremony of disavowal of disbelievers must be used to stand up for the oppressed people of Palestine and condemn the criminals,” he added.

He concluded by urging the global Muslim community to use the Hajj gathering to “make the voice of the oppressed Palestinian people heard around the world.”

Hajj is required at least once in a lifetime for all Muslims who are physically and financially able to undertake the journey.

The pilgrimage draws millions of Muslims annually to the holy sites in Saudi Arabia, serving as both a profound act of worship and a powerful collective experience that transcends national and cultural boundaries.
