IQNA – Egyptian qari Sheikh al-Sayyid Saeed, known as “Sultan al-Qurra (King of Quran Reciters)” died after a period of struggle with illness.

Saeed, who gained fame for his distinctive and exceptional recitation of Surah Yusuf and amazed millions of Quran lovers in Egypt and the Islamic world, passed away today (Saturday).

His body is to be buried in his hometown of Meet Selsil in the Dakahlia Governorate.

Sheikh Saeed developed a connection with the Holy Quran at the age of seven and began memorizing the Holy Book at the local village school.

He had previously mentioned that he first recited the Quran at a small village ceremony and received a prize equivalent to 25 qirsh (a small unit of Egyptian currency).

In an interview with Egyptian media, he said, “I love reciting the Quran because of my passion for the Holy Book, without any consideration for fame or material gain.”

Although this Quranic journey began in a small village in Dakahlia Governorate, his great success came from Kafr Suleiman Al-Bahri, in the center of Faraskur, Damietta Governorate.

He described this as a turning point in his life, saying that his family encouraged him to extend his recitations to wider areas.
