The union has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the latest Israeli aggression on Damascus, describing it as a flagrant violation of the sanctity of the Islamic Ummah and a deep wound to the dignity of Arabs and Muslims worldwide.
Calling the attack unprecedented in its symbolic and strategic implications, the Union warned that the repeated targeting of Arab capitals, especially Damascus, is not merely military in nature, but a psychological assault on the pride and collective conscience of the Muslim world.
In its statement, the Union called upon leaders of Islamic and Arab nations to immediately convene an emergency summit to stop what it called “Zionist tampering with the capabilities and honor of the Ummah.” The scholars urged Muslim rulers to unite in confronting the ongoing violations, which now threaten not only Gaza but the heart of the Levant.
“A unified stance is a necessity, not an option. The honor of the Ummah is being trampled in daylight,” the statement read.
The Union also directed an appeal to the Syrian transitional government, urging it to act with wisdom, justice, and restraint, particularly in the face of rising sectarian tensions in the southern Sweida region.
It called for strict accountability for those attempting to sow fitna (strife) and warned that weapons must be aimed solely at the occupier, not turned inward to inflame hatred between fellow sons of the same homeland, be they Druze or Sunni.
“The unity of the nation must be preserved. Any attempt to ignite inter-communal hatred serves the Zionist agenda,” it stated.
The Union urged senior Syrian scholars and national religious figures to urgently convene in Damascus to form a national council of wise men. This body would lead efforts to heal rifts and establish genuine reconciliation between Syria’s diverse communities.
The Union announced its readiness to dispatch a delegation led by its own President to join this initiative.
Citing the increasing threat posed by Israeli strikes across the region, the union renewed its longstanding call for the formation of an effective Islamic military and economic alliance to defend against aggression.
“The security of Damascus is the safety valve for the entire Middle East,” the scholars emphasized. “If the Zionist enemy continues to stoke fire in Damascus, it will ignite a blaze across the region.”
The Union warned that such recklessness will not pass without consequence, as history has always shown that oppression breeds resistance.
In its final point, the Union appealed to the international community to fulfill its responsibilities under international law and to halt the Zionist regime’s repeated violations which, according to the statement, aim to spread chaos in service of an extremist expansionist agenda.
“If Damascus and Gaza fall today, other Islamic capitals will follow. The enemy only understands force and continues its tyranny without regard for regional stability or human rights,” it said.

The statement concluded with a call from the Holy Quran, invoking verses that encourage Muslims to struggle in the path of Allah and reminding the Ummah of the promise of divine victory: “O you who believe, shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful torment?” (Surah As-Saff, 61:10)
The Union reiterated its confidence in the spiritual strength and moral clarity of the Muslim Ummah, urging unity, awareness, and steadfastness in confronting occupation, division, and betrayal.
