Participants in the 45th King Abdulaziz International Competition for Memorizing, Reciting, and Interpreting the Holy Quran toured a number of historic mosques and archaeological sites in Medina, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, the visits were part of a cultural program prepared for the contestants during the competition. The program began with stops at Mount Uhud, the cemetery of the Uhud martyrs, and Mount Rumaah, where participants received explanations about the historical and religious significance of the sites.

The group then visited Quba Mosque, regarded as the first mosque built in Islam, where they performed prayers. They later proceeded to Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, the Prophet’s Mosque, and offered prayers at the Rawdah al-Sharifah.

The competition’s final round concluded on Thursday at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, following six consecutive days of competitions in mourning and afternoon sessions.

This year’s edition brought together 179 contestants from 128 countries competing across five categories for a total prize pool of 4 million Saudi riyals.
