Zurich witnessed a large gathering on September 21 to support the purchase of the city’s Al-Wahda Mosque building, which was attended by members of the Albanian Muslim community, guests from Kosovo, North Macedonia, and the Paršava Valley, as well as representatives of Islamic institutions in the region.
Sheikh Akram Semnitsa, director of the Department of Islamic Minorities in the Islamic Patriarchate of Kosovo (Department of Muslim Affairs), addressed the gathering, emphasizing the important role of the mosque in preserving identity, creating unity and strengthening religious values.
The meeting was accompanied by the collection of 900,000 Swiss francs as a financial contribution to support the project to purchase the mosque building, and at the end, those who participated in the project were honored.
According to the report, the Albanian Muslim minority in Switzerland plays a pivotal role in spreading religious and cultural identity through the construction of mosques and Islamic centers, and for decades, their financial contributions and personal efforts have led to the establishment of reputable Islamic institutions that serve as a haven for Muslims of all ages and a place to teach the Holy Quran and the Albanian language to new generations.
These projects have not been simply buildings for worship, but rather serve as bridges of communication and integration into Swiss society, manifesting the values of cooperation and tolerance.
