Leader: Victory of Right Over Wrong Assured by Divine Promise
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued a message to commemorate the week on Thursday.
Sacred Defense Week this year coincides with the martyrdom of prominent figures in the Islamic resistance and courageous young fighters in different parts of the region, note the Leader.
“Martyrdom is the reward of struggle—whether in the eight-year defense, the heroic twelve-day battle, or in Lebanon, Gaza, and Palestine. Nations grow through these struggles and shine through these sacrifices,” he said.
The Iran-Iraq War, remembered in Iran as the “Sacred Defense,” lasted from 1980 to 1988. It began when Iraq, under Saddam Hussein, launched an invasion of Iran.
In Iran, the war became a symbol of resilience, unity, and sacrifice, shaping the country’s political and social identity for decades.
Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized the importance of faith in God’s promise. “What matters is to be certain of the divine promise regarding the victory of truth and the demise of falsehood, and to remain committed to our duty in supporting God’s religion,” he said.
