IQNA – An Iranian Sunni cleric emphasized that the Holy Quran is more than a religious book, describing it as a comprehensive manifesto for the economic, cultural, and political dimensions of human life.

Mamosta Fayeq Rostami, the representative of the people of Kurdistan in the Assembly of Experts, addressing the opening ceremony of the final round of Iran’s 48th National Holy Quran Competition (Sanandaj, October 18, 2025).

Mamosta Fayeq Rostami, the representative of the people of Kurdistan in the Assembly of Experts, made the remarks in an address to the opening ceremony of the final round of Iran’s 48th National Holy Quran Competition.

The ceremony was held at the Fajr Cultural Complex in Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan province, on Saturday.

Rostami underlined the high position and greatness of the Holy Quran and said honoring this divine book is, in fact, bowing to a source full of wisdom, healing, mercy, and a cause of individual and social growth and development.

The greatness of this divine word is such that not only Muslims, but also many prominent non-Muslim thinkers and intellectuals have acknowledged it, he stated.

The senior cleric quoted a foreign scholar as saying that despite having thousands of books, none has fascinated him as much as the Quran and it has led him to believe that this book is not the word of humans or jinn, but rather a divine invitation towards movement, justice, mercy, and the improvement of human lives.

Citing a saying of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), “Hearts rust like iron, and it is the Quran that polishes them and brings peace,” Rostami said the Quran is the light that guides humanity towards light, blessing, and spiritual peace.

He further considered the spread of the Quranic culture, especially the existence of thousands of reciters in the country and the Sanandaj region, a sign of people’s deep interest in this Holy Book.

He concluded by saying that the pinnacle of the greatness of the Quran is that it is a source of honor and dignity for humans and guides them towards worship and guidance; as Imam Ali (AS) has quoted the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as saying that God sent the Quran so that the earth would be illuminated by its light and humanity would move from darkness to divine mercy and light.
