Inaction on Gaza A Betrayal of Islamic, Humanitarian Values: IUMS Chief
Ali al-Qaradaghi said the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, facing genocide, deteriorating humanitarian conditions, winter cold, and storms, shows the Muslim Ummah’s indifference to a people enduring death, siege, and hunger.
He said assistance to the oppressed is both a religious and moral duty, and inaction is tantamount to betrayal of Islamic and humanitarian values.
Qaradaghi said scenes of tents being torn away, flooded by rain, and women and children left without shelter expose the depth of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
The IUMS chief added that the terrible calamity not only tests the patience of the victims but also assesses the positions of the entire international community.
He further said Palestinians in Gaza are experiencing flagrant oppression and aggression, calling on world nations, governments, as well as religious and humanitarian institutions to assume their responsibilities and expend serious efforts to stop the ongoing crimes and offer relief to the victims.
“Nowadays, Gaza stands as a moral benchmark, reflecting the stance of the Ummah and the collective conscience of humanity,” Qaradaghi stated.
Qaradaghi also expressed remorse over the ongoing crisis in Gaza, highlighting that Israel's repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement are preventing the delivery of 300,000 tents and prefabricated homes.
Intense weather conditions are adding to the hardships faced by displaced Palestinians in Gaza, who have endured ongoing bombardments, a crippling siege, and immense losses during more than two years of Israel's genocidal war.
The Israeli regime persists in obstructing the entry of vital shelter and aid supplies into the region.
Flimsy tents were submerged, and improvised camps were engulfed by mud on Monday after heavy winter rains battered the territory over the past few days.

On Sunday, a 30-year-old woman lost her life when a partially destroyed wall collapsed onto her tent in the Remal neighborhood, located west of Gaza City, during fierce winds.
Authorities have advised against seeking refuge in damaged buildings; however, the tents provide minimal shelter from the heavy rainfall and offer no effective defense against flooding.
Local officials in Gaza report that at least 15 individuals, including three infants, have lost their lives this month due to hypothermia, brought on by heavy rains and dropping temperatures.
Since October 2023, the Israeli military has killed more than 71,200 individuals, the majority of them women and children, and injured over 171,200 others in Gaza.
Despite a ceasefire that took effect on October 10, Israel continues to keep Gaza crossings closed and restricts the entry of mobile homes and reconstruction materials.
