The Algerian Quran Prize has begun under the supervision of Youssef Belmahdi, the country’s minister of religious affairs and Awqaf, Radio Algeria reported.
Speaking to reporters, Belmahdi said the number of countries participating in this edition, which has been held with the support of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has reached 48 countries.
He said that this number reflects the continuous growth of the position of the Algerian International Quran Prize in the international arena.
According to Belmahdi, the preliminary round of the competition is being organized remotely through videoconference at Algerian embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions abroad.
It is taking place under the supervision of a committee of international judges, including four judges from Algeria, one from Syria and another from Oman.
This competition is an opportunity to identify new reciters and outstanding talents from inside and outside the country, and also demonstrates Algeria’s progress in serving the Holy Quran, which has been achieved through mosques, Quranic schools, and recitation committees, Belmahdi said.
He added that the Algerian government, in line with the directives of the president of the country, supports international Quran competitions and pays special attention to the bearers of the Book of God (reciters and memorizers) by introducing new disciplines and increasing the value of cash prizes.
