Itikaf means religious retreat and Nadhr refers to a religious vow and a voluntary undertaking.
Hojat-ol-Islam Vahid Bolandi, the cultural and social Deputy of the Center for Mosque Affairs, said each mosque collects a fee from the participants in Itikaf rituals.
“Within the framework of the Nadhr of Itikaf campaign, we have asked people to participate in paying the expenses of those taking part in Itikaf. Those who have the financial means and cannot participate in the Itikaf ceremony can participate in this campaign and provide Iftar and Suhur for those who partake in the rituals and benefit from the rewards of Itikaf,” he stated.
He also noted that the spiritual ceremony of Itikaf will be held in a thousand mosques in Tehran province this year.
“We have prepared a content package for the imams of the mosques conducting Itikaf, which includes cultural content, prayers, and educational clips.”
Pointing out that this year, the “My Mosque” platform has been designed to record the activities of mosques in the field of Itikaf, he said that by registering in this platform, the mosques choose the type of Itikaf they will host.
Hojat-ol-Islam Bolandi noted that registration of those willing to partake in Itikaf began at the beginning of Rajab, and most of the capacity of Tehran mosques has now been completed,
Last year, 110,000 people performed Itikaf in mosques in Tehran province, he said, adding that so far, the registration process shows that there will be an increase in people’s attendance this year.
Last year, 800 mosques in the province hosted Itikaf.
Itikaf is a tradition of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his family, and is regarded as a highly rewarding act of worship in Islam.
