This is according to Mahmoud Lotfiniya, international Quran reciter, who also told IQNA that “teaching the Holy Quran to children is as important as acquainting them with individual and social life skills and even those children with certain disabilities are not excluded from the rule.”
“Of course teaching this special class is a challenging task in all spheres but as they are exposed to specific educational methods in other branches of science, we need to devise similar effective strategies to provide them with religious and Quranic teachings as well,” he went on to say.
“Considering the differences among these children in terms of their disabilities, the efficiency of the devised methods should be evaluated based on the individuals’ competence and understanding and this requires carrying out a reliable research project by the related experts.”
Lotfiniya further noted that the same problems and challenges in the educational system can be seen in this section mostly due to not making any positive step to improve the current conditions.
“Researches have shown that children with disabilities can even outdo ordinary individuals in different scientific and technical domains; some have even gained international awards in various fields including the Quranic sciences,” he pointed out.
“Evidence of this claim can be seen in visually-impaired children who have special talent for memorizing the Quran,” he went on to say, adding: “A great number of Quran memorizers in Arab countries are visually-impaired and they can be taken as perfect role models for teaching Quran memorization to children with disabilities.”
He further referred to the role of other Quranic centers and organizations in this regard, calling for more collaborative efforts to foster the growth of Quranic culture.
