Members of family have responsibilities regarding one another, according to religious scholar Mohammad Ali Rezaei Esfehani, speaking in a session on social interpretation of the Quran. Following are excerpts from his remarks at the session:
One of the signs of Mawaddah (love) and Rahma (mercy) is parents’ relationship with children. Members of family should get together several times a day, have meals together, hold conversations and talk about problems. Psychologists often advise parents to be friends with their children so that they will not hide their problems.
Mawaddah, which is a God-given gift to families can be strengthened by members of the family. A couple should take measures to ensure the continuation of their married life. That is why in Hadiths, women are advised to wear make-up and beautiful clothes for their husbands, and husbands and wives were advised to speak well to each other.
God has introduced the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the Holy Quran as the manifestations of His mercy.
And one of the elements of mercy emphasized in the Quran is formation of family. Of course, men and women should have the required background to receive the mercy.
