Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Mollanouri made the remark in a press conference in Tehran on Monday.
He expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and offered condolences to the Iranian nation.
He said that prayer ceremonies would be held at mosques across the country later in the day in memory of those who lost their lives in the incident.
The death toll from a massive explosion that ripped through Shahid Rajaei Port in the Iran’s southwestern city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday has risen to 70, while more than 1,000 people have sustained injuries.
Iranian officials say the cause of the tragic incident is under investigation, and a committee is collecting evidence related to the explosion.
