Karamat Week Celebrations Postponed One Day after Bandar Abbas Tragedy

IQNA – The head of the committee for celebrating the Karamat Week said there will be a one-day delay in holding the celebrations following a tragic blast in southern Iran that has killed tens of people.

Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Mollanouri made the remark in a press conference in Tehran on Monday.

He expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and offered condolences to the Iranian nation.

He said that prayer ceremonies would be held at mosques across the country later in the day in memory of those who lost their lives in the incident.

The death toll from a massive explosion that ripped through Shahid Rajaei Port in the Iran’s southwestern city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday has risen to 70, while more than 1,000 people have sustained injuries.

Iranian officials say the cause of the tragic incident is under investigation, and a committee is collecting evidence related to the explosion.

Hojat-ol-Islam Mollanouri said that a ceremony planned to be held in Qom Tuesday with the participation of girls has been rescheduled for Thursday.

Tuesday, April 29, 2025, marks the birth anniversary of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA), which is celebrated as daughters day in Iran.

The cleric said that the most important approach of the committee is to preserve, strengthen and develop the people’s aspect of the celebrations marking the Karamat Week, and that mosques, shrines, and holy sites are the main centers of the celebrations.

Karamat Week marks the birth anniversaries of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA) and Imam Reza (AS), falling on April 29 and May 9 this year, respectively. It is a time of pilgrimage, celebrations, and cultural events, particularly in cities like Mashhad and Qom.
