Unity of Islamic Countries Depends on ‘Will’ of Their Leaders: Indian Scholar

The remarks came in an interview with IQNA on the sidelines of the 39th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran.

“We are seeing how the European Union is working. We are seeing how NATO is working. Then how it is not possible for Muslim countries to form coalitions, to form unions for economical development, for scientific development, for educational development, for industrial development,” Malik Moatasim Khan said.

He noted that the challenge was not identity but determination. “We can form if our governments and those who are in governments if they have will. This is the problem of will. If they do not want, no one can do anything,” he added.

Muslims should help Palestinian resistance

Turning to the Palestinian issue, he said it represents “the issue of hurt and soul for Muslims.”

He added that beyond Palestine, any suffering of human beings is also a Muslim concern. “The question is that irrespective of a country-ship, geographical identity or religious identity, sectorial differences, this is the issue of justice,” he explained.

According to him, oppressed Palestinian people face displacement, destroyed livelihoods, and even genocide. “Every corner of Ummah should unite without hesitation and help them and help their resistance,” he urged.

The remarks come as the Israeli genocidal campaign in Gaza has killed more than 64,000 Palestinians since October 2023. The regime has also imposed a strict blockade on the territory, as rights groups stress that Israel is using starvation as a method of warfare.

Morality key for future generations

Moatasim Khan also pointed to the importance of moral and character development for future generations.

He said Muslims should resist the dominance of Western civilization but avoid extremism and backwardness. “So we had to know neither east nor west. Islam is the best,” he said.
