Prominent Egyptian Quran Master Honored in Moscow

IQNA – The Department of Religious Affairs of Muslims in the Russian Federation honored Abdel Fattah Taruti, a distinguished Quran reciter from Egypt.

Abdel Fattah Taruti, a distinguished Quran reciter from Egypt, was named the outstanding Quranic figure of the year at the 23rd edition of Russia’s international Quran competition.

 

Taruti, who is the deputy head of Egypt’s Quran Reciters Association, was honored as the outstanding Quranic figure of the year at the closing ceremony of the 23rd edition of Russia’s international Quran competition, Cairo 24 reported.

The Department of Religious Affairs of Muslims in Russia selected Taruti as the top Quranic personality of the year due to his rich background, his many efforts in reviving the tradition of Quran recitation, his pursuit of the style and character of prominent Quran reciters, and his relentless efforts in preparing Quran reciters and memorizers at the Taruti Institute for the Training of Qaris.

In a post on his Facebook account, Taruti thanked God for being honored in recognition of efforts in reviving the tradition of recitation.

Known as the Moscow Quran reciting competition, the Russian Quranic event has been held annually since 2000. Since year 2007 the competition became international.

Taruti was born in 1965 in the village of Tarut near the city of Zagazig in Sharqia Governorate.

He started learning the Quran by heart at the age of three and managed to memorize the entire Quran at 8.

A Quran teacher discovered his talent in Quran recitation and taught him the recitation skills.

He also encouraged Taruti to recite the Quran in various programs in the village.

Taruti then went to Zagazig to study at a branch of Al-Azhar and continued improving his Quranic skills by learning from masters like Sheikh Mohammad Al-Lithi, Shahat Anwar and Saeed Abdul Samad.
