Hundreds of villagers, along with Al-Azhar sheikhs and scholars, representatives of the Awqaf ministry, Quran memorization teachers, and female Quran teachers from the village, participated in the ceremony, Ad-Dustur website reported.
During the procession, the Quran memorizers carried copies of the Holy Book to encourage others to memorize the Holy Quran.
Prizes were distributed to male and female students from primary to high school who have learned the Quran by heart.
Among the Quran memorizers were children as young as 10.
The organizers presented them with certificates of appreciation and cash prizes, which were distributed based on their level of memorization.
The ceremony also honored a student named Hala Khalil Ibrahim, who has a physical disability. Despite this, she persevered in her efforts to memorize the Holy Quran while attending the village Quranic school.
Hala burst into tears after being called to the stage to receive her award. This moment touched the audience, and they rushed to her aid and carried her to the stage in a wheelchair.
