IQNA – Seyed Ahmad Marateb, who was the first Iranian to recite the Adhan (call to prayer) on the roof of the Holy Kaaba died at 72.

Seyed Ahmad Marateb  was the first Iranian to recite the Adhan (call to prayer) on the roof of the Holy Kaaba

 

Marateb was a renowned eulogist and vocalist from the central city of Isfahan. 

He was also a master of Iranian ritual music who had started learning to sing traditional Iranian music at the age of six.  

Marateb held a BA in Persian literature and in theology as well as an honorary doctorate in Iranian music.

He wrote more than 200 articles on issues related to music, poetry, mysticism, Taziyeh (passion play), etc.

In 1974, he became the first Iranian to recite the Adhan on the roof of the Kaaba at the Grand Mosque in the holy city of Mecca.
