IQNA – The head of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center emphasized that the Palestinian cause is undeniable.

Al-Azhar chief Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb

Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb made the remark in a meeting in Cairo with Agostino Balizzi, the Italian ambassador to Egypt, adding that the Palestinian issue has reached a dangerous point of oppression and aggression, and this situation has crossed all civilizational, religious, human and moral values.

He said the Palestinian issue has reached a point where no one has any choice but to either stand against the crimes committed against Palestinians or be complicit in these human tragedies, Al Jazeera reported.

Al-Tayeb described this situation as a genocide that is being carried out by (the Israeli regime’s) army against a defenseless people, and in the process, the blood of children and civilians is being shed.

There are no two views in this regard; either one should be against these crimes or be complicit in them, he emphasized.

Expressing deep regret over the martyrdom of thousands of Palestinians in Israeli attacks, he noted that “the occupying regime and its supporters” have suffered more than anyone else, as global public opinion has changed after the “false propaganda” was exposed and people in Western countries have held demonstrations to condemn the Zionist regime’s massacres in the Gaza Strip.

He went on to say that Western people took to the streets to condemn the crimes in Gaza, describing the occupier as a state that committed the most heinous crimes against humanity. “Therefore, popular support (for Israel) disappeared after the occupier’s true face was revealed.”

Sheikh al-Tayeb also paid special tribute to the Italian port workers who refused to load weapons destined for Israel earlier this year, calling their stance “great humanity” that reflects the conscience of the Italian nation.
