Al-Azhar Delegation to Attend Congress of World Religions in Kazakhstan

IQNA – A high-ranking delegation from Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center will attend the opening of the 8th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan.

The 8th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions will kick off in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

 

The congress will kick off on Wednesday, September 17, with the presence of Kassem Jumart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan, in Astana, the capital of the Central Asian country.

The Astana Religion Dialogue Center will host the two-day event.

Ahmad al-Tayeb, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar Sheikh and Chairman of the Council of Muslim Scholars, has named Al-Azhar Deputy Mohammad Al-Duwaini as the head of the delegation in this conference.

Al-Azhar’s participation in the Astana congress is in line with the official invitation of the President of Kazakhstan to the Al-Azhar chief.

In the last edition held in 2022, the congress witnessed the historic presence of Sheikh al-Tayeb and Pope Francis, the then leader of the Catholic Church.
