The incident occurred at Masjid Yusuf on Stamperland Gardens in Clarkston around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, 24 September. According to police, the suspect allegedly used a metal pole to break the window.
Officers confirmed that a 31-year-old man has been charged in connection with the vandalism, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, Daily Record reported on Friday.
The Clarkston Community Centre said the incident had deeply unsettled children, their families, and the broader community.
The centre described it as part of “a troubling pattern” emerging in East Renfrewshire and Scotland and urged vigilance and the prompt reporting of suspicious behaviour.
Community leaders have linked the event to other recent anti-Muslim incidents across Greater Glasgow. Last month, a Muslim schoolgirl was reportedly assaulted in Newton Mearns, and graffiti reading “say no to Islam” was found in Scotstounhill.

Masjid E Khazra condemned the vandalism, expressing solidarity with Masjid Yusuf. In a statement, it said: “Such actions are an attack on all of us. They threaten the values of peace, respect and community cohesion that Scotland stands for.”
The mosque urged police and local authorities to ensure the safety of worshippers and to strengthen protection around mosques, schools, and neighbourhoods.
Community groups and interfaith organisations have pledged to work together to promote safety, understanding, and unity among Scotland’s diverse communities.
