Oman Unveils Plan for Nation’s First 3D-Printed Mosque in Dhofar

The project is part of the Dahariz Waterfront Development Plan in Salalah, a broader initiative aimed at combining modern urban planning with sustainable and cultural design.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and involves cooperation between Dhofar Municipality, Innotech Oman, and Oday Architecture, according to the Oman News Agency (ONA).

Innotech Oman, a local pioneer in 3D printing for construction, will build the mosque in partnership with Oday Architecture. The structure’s design is based on a spiral ribbon form, creating shaded walkways and tiered green areas around the main building.

According to Dhofar Municipality head Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, the project reflects the governorate’s vision for “innovative urban spaces that express Islamic identity while embracing sustainability.”

He added, “This mosque will stand out as a spiritual, architectural, and cultural landmark along Dahariz Beach,” emphasizing that 3D printing would reduce material waste, speed up construction, and enhance the integration of natural light and renewable energy.

The mosque’s design incorporates energy-harvesting systems that draw on motion, wind, and sunlight. Its oval-shaped prayer hall will feature a central oculus that filters natural light, symbolizing divine guidance.

The minaret, inspired by both the Omani sail and the traditional incense burner, will be topped with a crescent—representing a blend of modern engineering and cultural heritage.

Al Ghassani noted that the surrounding landscape will use salt- and wind-resistant plants to align with Dhofar’s environmental priorities and reinforce the governorate’s sustainable urban identity.
