Al-Azhar Chief Emphasizes Avoiding Desecration of Religious Sanctities

IQNA – The grand imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar, stressed the need to respect religious sanctities and avoid insulting.

Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, the grand imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar, and Dag Bolin Dunfleet, the new Swedish ambassador to Egypt, meet in Cairo.

 

In a meeting with the new Swedish ambassador to Egypt, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb said crimes related to desecration of the Holy Quran, which Sweden and some other countries have witnessed in recent years, have hurt the feelings of two billion Muslims around the world, given the sanctity of the Holy Quran for Muslims.

He stressed the need to take decisive measures to prevent the recurrence of such crimes, which cannot be justified under the guise of “freedom of expression”, Youm7 website reported.

He emphasized that there is no freedom to insult religious sanctities.

Expressing dissatisfaction and questioning what the relationship is between freedom of expression and insulting religions and holy books, he said the continuation of such actions threatens human values ​​and spreads hatred in societies.

The Sheikh of Al-Azhar emphasized that governments must prevent these violations and enact deterrent laws, as this is a great responsibility that must be adhered to.

The new Swedish ambassador to Cairo, for his part, appreciated the efforts of the Sheikh of Al-Azhar to promote the values ​​of tolerance and coexistence, and said that the Swedish people respect all religions and reject any anti-Islamic actions.
