Ban on Wine, Gambling Aimed at Safeguarding Salah

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Quran prohibits wine and gambling and one of the reasons for that is protecting the sanctity of Salah and spirituality.

Wine and gambling have many physical, mental and social consequences, but in Verse 91 of Surah Al-Ma’idah, the Quran refers to another negative effect of the two:

“Satan wants to induce hostility and hatred among you through wine and gambling and to prevent you from remembering God and prayer. Will you then avoid such things?”

From among numerous harms of wine and gambling, this verse highlights their social and spiritual harms.

The social harm is stirring up hatred and enmity and the spiritual harm is preventing people from remembering God and saying prayers.
