AL-QUDS (IQNA) – The Grand Mufti of al-Quds and Palestine slammed the Zionist regime’s move to prevent reconstruction work at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In a statement released on Monday, Sheikh Mohammed Hussein raised concerns over the recent decision by Israeli authorities to prohibit the "Reconstruction Committee," affiliated with Jordan, from carrying out their work in the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Sheikh Hussein emphasized the potential repercussions and issued a warning that any committee employee attempting to work in the mosque could face arrest.

The Palestinian Mufti stressed that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a sacred site exclusively for Muslims, and interference from any other party in its affairs is deemed unacceptable.

The Mufti drew attention to the Israeli authorities' alleged objective of assuming control over the Al-Aqsa Mosque, reminiscent of their previous desecration of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. He denounced the Israeli authorities' action as an aggression aimed at interfering with the mosque's administration and encroaching upon its main entrances, ultimately leading to the implementation of hostile plans to divide and exert control over significant portions of the blessed sanctuary.

Sheikh Hussein urgently called upon Arab and Muslim leaders, as well as their respective populations, parties, and organizations, to be alert to the imminent danger confronting the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

He implored them to take immediate and decisive action to halt these violations.

Sources within al-Quds revealed that the Israeli occupation forces have notified the Reconstruction Committee's director that any employee found engaged in their assigned tasks within the mosque would be subject to arrest.

Despite the urgent need for reconstruction and restoration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Israeli occupation forces have imposed stringent limitations on these efforts. Ongoing excavations beneath and in the vicinity of the mosque have resulted in the dislodging of stones and water leakage, severely impacting the structural integrity of the sacred site and its corridors.

This recent development has ignited concerns among Palestinians and the global Muslim community, who regard the Al-Aqsa Mosque as one of the holiest sites in Islam. The obstruction of the Reconstruction Committee's work and the potential further encroachment upon the mosque by Israeli authorities have amplified calls for immediate international intervention to safeguard the sanctity and integrity of this revered place of worship.
