Children spend most of their time with the mother and are raised by mother. God has put intricacies in women that enables them to take the responsibility of raising children.
When the basis of parents’ life is faith in God and they act upon Islam’s teachings in all areas, including by respecting one another in family, it will affect the children as well.
For example, when the daughter of the family sees her mother’s hijab and modesty outside the home, she follows her mother as a role model.
Children mostly follow the father and look at his behavior and conduct in the area of faith and ideological issues. Although both parents play important roles in family in different areas, children mostly take their father as role model in terms of faith and religious issues.
Today, the role of parents in family has been somehow weakened compared to the past, especially in the area of education. So we should know that too much strictness will have the opposite effect.
If parents show too much strictness in every area, it would have a negative effect on children as teenagers react when they face their parents’ controlling behavior.
Parents have the right to know who their children associate with but they should not be too strict in this regard. If they are worried, they can meet with their children’s friends and their parents and monitor their children’s relationships instead of directly interfering in their activities.
