Iraqi Border Crossings, Entry Points Ready to Welcome Foreign Arbaeen Pilgrims

IQNA – The Iraqi Border Crossing Organization said it is fully prepared for welcoming foreign Arbaeen pilgrims to the country.

The organization said it will use all its capacities to successfully implement the Arbaeen pilgrimage plan.

Alaa al-Din al-Qaisi, spokesman for the Iraqi Border Crossing Organization, said in a statement that, in accordance with the orders of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to provide the best services to the Arbaeen pilgrims and facilitate their entry without delay, Omar Adnan al-Waeli, head of the organization, ordered all human resources of the organization to be on full alert and cooperate with the Ministry of Health, the Interior, and other related departments in this regard.

He added that all preparations have been completed to welcome pilgrims through land crossings (Al-Mandhariyyah, Zarbatiyah, Al-Shayb and Shalamcheh), Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government crossings (Bashmaq, Hajj Imran and Ibrahim Al-Khalil), and air crossings (Baghdad, Kirkuk and Basra international airports).

He went on to say that the Iraqi Border Crossing Organization’s plans include coordination with provincial departments that have border crossings to prepare the necessary infrastructure at the places where pilgrims travel and facilitate the Arbaeen pilgrimage process from border crossings to Karbala, to ensure their safe return.

Arbaeen is a religious event observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam.

It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims, as well as many Sunnis and followers of other religions, walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. This year, the day of Arbaeen will fall on August 14.
