IQNA – Hezbollah will definitely not accept the Lebanese government’s disarmament plan, an Iranian political analyst said, adding that one of the main concerns of the Lebanese people is that their country will turn into another Syria.

Jafar Qannadbashi, an expert on West Asian issues

Speaking to IQNA, Jafar Qannadbashi, an expert on West Asian issues, noted that for more than 20 years, the Americans have been trying to force Lebanese authorities to take action to disarm Hezbollah.

“During these two decades, despite the use of various methods and pressures, the Lebanese government has not been able to carry out this mission, which is desired by the United States and Israel.”

The reason for this failure to disarm Hezbollah is that Hezbollah has provided extensive services to the people, which has led to public satisfaction and increased its popularity, he stated.

“This popularity was also clearly evident in the recent elections, in such a way that Hezbollah gained the largest popular base among the political groups in Lebanon.”

Qannadbashi said Hezbollah is not a group separate from the people, but rather the Lebanese people themselves.

“The enemies, especially through their media, have tried to portray this group as separate from society, but this is not the case. Hezbollah members are ordinary people with different jobs who, in times of danger, take up arms and defend their homes, farms, and neighborhoods.

“These weapons have never been used to attack others and have been purely defensive in nature. For this reason, the Lebanese government will not be able to disarm this group, because Hezbollah’s weapons enjoy popular support.”

In addition, the expert said, it should be noted that one of the major plans of the United States and the Israeli regime in the current situation is to separate the countries of the resistance front from each other, weaken the ties between the countries of the resistance axis and reduce their defense capabilities.

“Lebanon is now also targeted in this framework. (And in this context), the colonialist movement is trying to weaken the relations between Lebanon and Iran.

Qannadbashi added that, unfortunately, some Arab governments have joined Israel and the United States in attempts to provide the conditions for Hezbollah’s disarmament, and it seems that these governments are playing the main role in implementing this plan, while those governments will be the main losers in the long run.

“Hezbollah will definitely not accept this and this plan will not be realized because one of the main concerns of the Lebanese people is that their country will become another Syria. Syria is next to Lebanon’s borders and the Lebanese people witnessed that when Bashar al-Assad left Syria, Israel practically began to disarm the country. In a way, the Zionist regime destroyed more than 600 military points on the first day. Airports and other infrastructure were destroyed, and Syria’s defense power was effectively severely reduced, in other words, eliminated. After that, civil wars, separatism, land occupation, and insecurity began in Syria.”

Therefore, Qannadbashi said, one of the reasons why Hezbollah’s disarmament will definitely not happen is this experience, which shows that Hezbollah’s disarmament could lead to the collapse of Lebanon’s security and the country being caught up in internal crises.

Elsewhere in the interview, he touched on the recent trip to Lebanon by the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani to Lebanon, and said this trip took place in a situation where the Americans were trying to destroy or weaken the link between Iran and the axis of resistance and create a rift between Iran and Lebanon.

“Therefore, naturally, this trip was carried out with the aim of countering these efforts and strengthening the strategy of strengthening Iran-Lebanese relations.”

In fact, he added, this trip was made in order to maintain the defense capabilities of the countries of the resistance axis and prevent their defense capabilities from decreasing.

“The use of the doctrine of collective security in these circumstances by the countries of the resistance axis is essential so that the security of the region and Lebanon is not jeopardized and Hezbollah is not disarmed.”
