IQNA – At least 26 Palestinians were killed in fresh Israeli attacks across Gaza on Tuesday, even as Hamas confirmed its acceptance of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal.

The latest Israeli bombardments devastated multiple areas of Gaza, leaving scores of casualties among displaced families and aid-seekers.

The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that two people, including a young girl, were killed when Israeli forces struck a displacement tent near the University College in Khan Younis. Four more people died in a separate strike on another shelter in al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis.

In central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital said it had received five bodies and several wounded following a strike on a displacement tent in the al-Bassa area. Later, the same hospital confirmed another five deaths after Israeli forces targeted civilians near the Kissufim site.

In Gaza City, Shifa Medical Complex recorded two fatalities and at least 53 wounded after shelling struck crowds waiting for food aid in the Zikim area of Beit Lahia. Nearby, in the Netzarim axis, Israeli gunfire on aid seekers left one person dead and several others injured.

In Rafah, two Palestinians lost their lives in separate incidents — one in an Israeli strike on a tent sheltering displaced families opposite the Muawiya Mosque, and another by Israeli fire near an aid distribution point. Overnight, a limited Israeli incursion into the Al-Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, accompanied by heavy shelling, killed at least five more people.

The relentless attacks come against the backdrop of ongoing mediation efforts. An Egyptian official confirmed that Hamas has accepted a proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, which would involve the release of half of the captives held in Gaza in return for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

The talks, involving Egyptian and Qatari mediators, have been underway in Cairo. Senior Hamas official Basem Naim also announced on Facebook that the group had conveyed its approval to mediators.

The proposal is seen as a step toward a broader agreement that could end the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza. However, US President Donald Trump reiterated his support for Israel’s war aims, saying the release of captives would only come after Hamas is “destroyed.”

Israel’s onslaught in Gaza, launched after the October 7, 2023 Operation Al-Aqsa Storm by Palestinian resistance fighters, has inflicted staggering losses. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports more than 62,000 Palestinians killed and over 156,000 injured.

Rights groups report that Israel has been deliberately targeting civilians, while sealing border crossings since March 2 to block humanitarian aid, exacerbating famine and deepening the humanitarian crisis.
