IQNA – Leader of Yemen’s Ansarallah movement, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, slammed Israel over an airstrike in Sana’a that assassinated Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and several cabinet members, calling the attack a new addition to the regime’s “criminal record.”

The movement announced in a statement on Saturday that al-Rahawi and some members of his cabinet were killed in an Israeli airstrike, which also left a number of other ministers wounded.

Al-Houthi mourned the assassinated officials in a televised speech on Sunday, calling them “the martyrs of all Yemen.”

“The Israeli enemy, with its crimes and savagery, does not spare even children, women, and defenseless civilians,” al-Houthi said.

He vowed that Yemen would not be intimidated by the attacks on its sovereignty and would instead intensify its campaign of attacks in support of Palestinians.

“Our people will not be weakened by the aggression they are facing,” he said, pledging that “the coming days will see additional success… in thwarting the Israeli enemy’s attempts to commit crimes against our dear people or to target official institutions and cities.”

Since October 2023, Yemen’s Armed Forces have carried out dozens of drone and missile strikes against Israel, declaring the operations acts of solidarity with Gaza.

Israel has, in turn, escalated its bombardment of Yemen’s infrastructure and civilian areas in recent weeks, a move observers warn risks dragging the region deeper into conflict.
