The Al-Nur International Quran Competition is being held at Al-Ameed University in Karbala with students from more than 60 universities inside and outside Iraq.
According to Al-Kafeel News, the event is organized by the Department of Scientific Supervision and Evaluation of the Student Activities Unit at Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with support from the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS). It began on October 12 and will continue until October 16.
The opening ceremony featured Quran recitation by Iraqi qari Mohammed Redha al-Zubaidi, a speech by Dr. Maitham Hamid al-Qanbar, Vice President for Scientific Affairs at Al-Ameed University, a speech by a representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and remarks by Dr. Alaa al-Mousawi, Deputy Head of the Quranic Scientific Assembly affiliated with the shrine. The program also included performances of tawasheeh and recognition of the host universities.
The jury panel consists of expert scholars: Dr. Basim al-Abbadi (recitation and ibtida’), Sheikh Mahdi al-Amiri (memorization), Sheikh Mohammed Fahmi Asfour (tajwid rules), Yahya al-Sahhaf (voice), and Sayyid Hassanayn al-Hulw (melody).
Mushtaq Karim Abdulrahim, Vice President of Al-Ameed University for Administrative and Legal Affairs, said: “Al-Ameed University hosted the International Quran Al-Nur Student Competition as part of the activities of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. A number of students from Arab and foreign countries, in addition to representatives of 60 universities from within Iraq, participated in this competition.”

He added: “Considering its impact on students’ morale by linking the Holy Quran with the university environment, this competition is one of the most important Quranic activities supported by Al-Ameed University. This approach has been continuously pursued by the Holy Shrine, on behalf of Al-Ameed and Al-Kafeel universities.
